Damascus knife forging course (exclusive knife) 2.5 days
In small groups of 1 - 3 people (from 16 years) In Losenstein, under my expert guidance, you forge up to 100 layers of Damascus steel yourself by folding and forge welding different steels into a solid piece and then forging your dream knife from it. Blade shape freely selectable. In this course you will learn what is important in forging, every step will be explained by me personally so that at the end of the course you can take home a perfect damask knife.
Process:
Day 1
- Starts at 9:00 a.m. (entry at 8:50 a.m.) in my blacksmith's workshop in 4460 Losenstein, Stiedelsbach 32
- Short safety briefing
- Design your desired knife (ideally bring a sketch with you) max. blade length 20 cm, handle length ~ 13 cm, blade height 55 mm, 100 layers
- Prepare and forge the damask package, fold it and forge it again
- The work has been a bit strenuous so far, so there will be a short snack break (already included in the price) (vegans or allergy sufferers please let us know in advance)
- There is a break between forging and folding your damask plate (included in the price, vegans or allergy sufferers please let us know in advance)
Day 2
- Starts at 9:00 a.m. (entry at 8:50 a.m.)
- Work out the blade shape, grind and harden it
- Hardening of the blade and break in one (included in the price, vegans or allergy sufferers please let us know in advance)
- Grind the blade coarsely and finely, then etch and polish
- Choosing the handle material. Free Materials: Fruitwoods,Antlers, Bog Oak. For a small additional charge: stabilized wood. Fossil mammoth molars/mammoth ivory for an additional charge - in this case please let us know when registering!
Day 3
The price includes:
- Self-forged knife: max. blade length 20 cm + handle length ~ 13 cm, blade height 55 mm, 100 layers
- Blade steel
- Choosing the handle material. Free Materials: Fruitwoods,Antlers, Bog Oak. For a small additional charge: stabilized wood. Fossil mammoth molars/mammoth ivory for an additional charge - in this case please let us know when registering!
- Consumables, workshop use
- 2x lunch or snack
What to bring:
- You enjoy what you do,
- work clothes (jeans and pullover/not made of plastic),
- sturdy shoes, goggles, leather gloves and the rest of the protective equipment can be used,
- you can take it with you, or you can buy it on site
Important information about this course:
- Starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. - ends at 6:00 p.m. (entry at 8:50 a.m.)
- Minimum age: 16 years (for minors, the knife will be handed over to the legal guardian upon completion)
- At the start of the course, a safety instruction/waiver must be signed which excludes any liability on the part of the organizer in the event of personal injury or damage to property during the course.
- No alcohol, no pets or spectators!
- The size of the knife is not negotiable, the specified size and number of layers will be made!
- The rest of the forged plate is not the property of the customer, but can be taken away for an additional charge.
- Tools that have been used are returned to where they were removed.
Terms and conditions:
- The place is only booked for you once the full amount has been paid
- If no payment is made within 4 weeks of booking, the course will be automatically canceled
- If you cancel the booked and paid event, we will charge the following service: up to 3 weeks before the start of the course no cancellation fee, from 3 weeks before the start of the course 30% of the course fee, from 1 week before the start of the course 70% of the course fee.
- Vouchers/booked courses are valid for 1 year from the date of issue/invoice!
